Space Park is an urban oasis garden with mostly perennial flower beds, shrubs, and ornamental trees, plus a few herbs growing at the rear southwest corner. There are two small grass spaces for reclining or sunning, and two small picnic tables and two benches for seating. The park is open from early morning until dusk and closed after dark.
Volunteer committee members usually meet on Saturday mornings in warm weather to cut the grass, remove the weeds, rubbish or trash, close and reopen the gates each day, and to monitor the automated irrigation system.
The park offers an environmentally friendly, beautiful and peaceful “escape” within our neighborhood. It is a park designed by and for the community in an effort to create and preserve open spaces in our neighborhoods. Local residents have a place to enjoy cooperative gardening and build community.
The garden is managed by the Triangle Neighbors Association in a structure similar to Wendt Play lot (nearby children’s lot). The garden committee is responsible for watering, weeding, cleaning, and otherwise maintaining the garden’s appearance. The garden is enclosed with a brick wall and a secure, iron-fence with a gated entrance. Ornamental lighting supplements the six large street lamps that are mounted around the property.
