Plans for a long-awaited development featuring a Mariano’s at 3030 N. Broadway have been approved by the Chicago Plan Commission. The site of the former Dominick’s has been vacant since the fire in 2005 and currently serves as a surface parking lot. When completed, the five story 3030 N. Broadway development will house approximately 125,000 square feet of retail. Mariano’s will occupy both the first and second levels and is approximately 73,000 square feet. XSport Fitness will be located on the 5th level of the building with 44,500 square feet. The remaining 7,500 square feet of small retail shops is on the ground level. Designed by Antunovich Associates, the new complex will have two levels of decked parking totaling 245 parking spaces, along with another 20 surface level parking spots.
Scheduled to open Summer of 2016, this new high-end grocer for the neighborhood will reactivate a long-vacant site with an environmentally sustainable design, stimulating other new neighborhood investments. The ‘town square’ development has a pedestrian-friendly design that includes a community park along Waterloo Court that will serve as a green space.
An official groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday, February 3, 2015.
