Arterial Resurfacing Projects – Lake Shore Drive (Inner) Arterial Resurfacing:
UPDATE: CDOT and Bigane crews will complete all concrete work along the east side of Lake Shore Drive by the end of December 2017. A decision has been made to hold off on milling and asphalt paving until the spring of 2018. Asphalt paving in the spring will allow the asphalt to set under warmer conditions that will produce a final product that will better withstand Chicago’s harsh weather and vehicular wear and tear.
This work is part of the Chicago Department of Transportation’s Arterial Street Resurfacing within the 44th Ward.
Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin on October 23, 2017, pending clearance from and coordination with existing utilities, and weather permitting. Bigane Paving Company is the general contractor for this project and for the Chicago Department of Transportation.
The work will include ADA sidewalk improvements, curb and gutter removal and replacement, bus pad construction, milling and paving the existing asphalt pavement, and striping.
During construction, temporary “No Parking” signs will be periodically posted as needed for each activity listed above. These temporary signs will restrict parking during working hours, while adhering to rush hour restrictions, for the completion of the work. All work on this corridor is scheduled to be completed by December 31, 2017.
For additional information please contact Dionisios “Dan” Manoli in my office at 773-525-6034 or via email: Dionisios.Manoli@cityofchicago.org.
Thank you in advance for your patience throughout construction.
Sewer Main Projects – Sheridan Sewer Lining (Belmont to Wellington):
The Department of Water Management and Kenny Construction are scheduled to work on this Sewer Lining Project in mid to late-February. The crews will be lining approximately 1,285ft of the 42 inch Sheridan sewer main from Belmont to Wellington.
During work days, mobilization will start at 6:00 am. Actual work will begin at 7:00 am. Work is expected to be completed at 3:00 pm. No Parking signs will be posted in the immediate area of work a day before any scheduled work. Residents are urged to move their vehicles away from the work site to avoid being towed. It will be necessary to reduce traffic lane usage to ensure public safety during work hours. Equipment and materials will be on the street during the work. If necessary, detours and alternative bus stops may be posted.
During the main sewer line work, to prevent odors in your home, please pour two to three cups of water into each basement floor drain. Please restrict your water usage as much as possible. A City Engineer will be on site during the work to answer any questions from the residents.
Should you have any questions or concerns, you can either ask the City Engineer during the project, or contact Dionisios “Dan” Manoli in my office at 773.525.6034 or Dionisios.Manoli@cityofchicago.org.
Water Main Projects – Broadway Water Main (Irving Park to Belmont) & Arterial Resurfacing:
Recent Updates: August 28, 2017: Water main replacement construction by the Department of Water Management, NPL Construction and Reliable Construction is now complete.
Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) crews expect to begin ADA upgrades of 37 (thirty seven) sidewalk/curb ramps between Belmont Avenue and Grace Street on Tuesday August 29, 2017. Initially, CDOT crews will upgrade 20 (twenty) sidewalk/curb ramps along the west side of Broadway from Belmont Avenue and Patterson Avenue. CDOT expects to have the first 20 sidwalk/curb ramps upgraded by Thursday, September 7, 2017.
CDOT anticipates begining construction of the remaining 17 (seventeen) sidewalk/curb ramps on Monday, September 11, 2017.
Project: Department of Water Management, NPL Construction and Reliable Construction crews will be installing approximately 2,572 feet of new 12-inch and 5,302 feet of new 24-inch water main pipe in N. Broadway from W. Belmont to W. Irving Park.
Reason: The old water main dates back to 1890 and needs to be replaced.
Traffic: When working in the street, crews may close or limit traffic to one lane in each direction between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. for safety reasons but you will always be able to reach your home or business. Outside of working hours, travel lanes will be left open for local traffic only.
Parking: Crews will post the work area for “No Parking” as needed during work hours (7am- 4pm) Monday through Friday. We are agreeable to parking outside of those hours, but will have to insist that cars be moved by the start of the next workday. We will try to preserve as much parking as possible
Can I park when you’re not working? We have no problem with you parking outside of working hours. We have to insist that cars be out of our way at the start of the workday.
We know that construction always involves inconveniences and noise. We will do everything possible to maintain your quality of life throughout this project. Crews will conduct themselves as good and thoughtful neighbors in the course of their presence on your street.
Should you have any questions or concerns, you can either ask the construction foreman during the project, or contact Dionisios “Dan” Manoli in my office at 773.525.6034 or Dionisios.Manoli@cityofchicago.org.
