Rodent Control
Rodent Baiting
The City of Chicago’s Bureau of Rodent Control provides several options for rodent baiting and investigates every reported rat sighting. Alley conditions are investigated and damaged carts are replaced. Rodenticide is placed in rat burrows to eradicate the nests.
The Department of Streets & Sanitation need the cooperation of residents to keep alleys rat free. If you see rodents in either the alley behind your home, on your property (front or back yard, gangway, etc.) or notice conditions that may contribute to rodent activity, please call our office at 773-525-6034 or email us at ward44@cityofchicago.org.
We also work preventatively with the Bureau of Rodent Control to prevent rodent issues – but need your help!

Garbage Carts
More than 1.5 million, heavy duty plastic 96-gallon garbage carts with tight fitted lids are supplied free to single-family residences and apartment buildings of four units or less. These free carts, combined with the rodenticide we strategically place deep inside rat burrows, are the key reasons for the decline of rats in our city.
Missing or damaged carts are replaced free by the Bureau of Sanitation by calling the city’s service request line at 3-1-1, contacting our office at (773)525-6034 or via email at ward44@cityofchicago.org or click on the button below to get started online.
