The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced that the North Lake Shore Drive repaving project between Monroe St. and Grand Ave. is ahead of schedule. Shortly after morning rush hour on Thursday, September 13, construction crews are expected to change traffic configurations on N. LSD. Drivers should notice an improved commute as they will be driving on newly resurfaced lanes between Monroe St. and Grand Ave.
The new traffic pattern will re-open the inner two lanes of traffic in each direction and close the outer two lanes northbound and southbound. Additionally, at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, the northbound exit ramp from LSD to Illinois St. and the southbound exit ramp to Randolph St. will be closed for repairs and resurfacing. Also, at 7:00 p.m., DuSable Harbor parking will be restricted. The northbound exit at Randolph St. and the ramp from Randolph St. to Lower LSD will remain open until work on the Illinois St. ramps is completed. Once Illinois St. reopens, the Randolph St. ramps will be resurfaced. There may also be periodic closures of Lower LSD and Wacker Dr. to ensure worker and motorist safety if surface work requires extensive repairs.
CDOT is carrying out the work on an accelerated schedule with around the clock lane closures and crews working double shifts in order to complete the repairs as quickly and safely as possible, with a minimum amount of inconvenience for drivers. Currently, the project remains on schedule.
Once the mainline resurfacing is complete, motorists can expect periodic partial lane closures on LSD in both directions for pavement striping and punch list work on both projects. This work will take place during off peak times, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and overnight from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting.
CDOT continues to encourage motorist to seek alternative routes or public transportation until the project is completed.

On Sunday, October 7, the 41st annual Bank of America Chicago Marathon will welcome 45,000 participants to the City of Chicago. Each year, we proudly invite participants, volunteers and spectators to celebrate the Chicago Marathon which starts and finishes in historic Grant Park and travels through the downtown streets of Chicago.
As in past years on marathon morning during the street closures, the one block strip of Inner Lake Shore Drive in front of 3180 Lake Shore which is normally one-way southbound will become a TWO-WAY STREET under the supervision of Chicago Police.

Dear Resident,
The 36th annual Chicago Triathlon, the largest swim-bike-run event in the world, will be held in Grant Park and throughout the downtown area on Sunday, August 26.
Due to a conflict between a car and cyclist on Lake Shore Drive last year, the public safety professionals of the City are no longer permitting cones as separation on Lake Shore Drive.
For the bike portion of this year’s Triathlon, all southbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive will be closed to traffic on race day, Sunday, August 26, between 5:00 AM and 12:00 PM, from Hollywood Ave to Randolph St.
Life Time Fitness organizes the triathlon each year, and has worked with the relevant City agencies and impacted Aldermanic offices to message this closure.
Should you wish to learn more about the traffic impact, or the triathlon in general, please visit www.chicagotriathlon.com/resources or contact their office:

Lake Shore Drive Repaving Project to Begin on August 27; Two Lanes to be Closed in Both Directions from Monroe to LaSalle Drive Until October 6; Drivers Urged to Reroute to Avoid Delays
The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced that it plans to start an accelerated project on August 27, weather permitting, to resurface N. Lake Shore Drive from Monroe St. to Grand Ave. and to make repairs to the bridge that carries Lake Shore Drive over LaSalle Drive. The accelerated schedule will require lane closures that will reduce Lake Shore Drive to two lanes in each direction from South of Monroe to LaSalle Drive (near North Avenue) for the duration of the project in order to complete the work by October 6, ahead of the Chicago Marathon.
CDOT is advising motorists to take alternate routes to avoid delays, especially during peak travel times.
During the first phase, the two inner lanes of both north and southbound LSD will be closed so that crews can repair and resurface the roadway and ramps at Randolph St., Illinois St. and Lower Wacker Drive. Once that work is complete, the outer lanes will be closed so the roadway and left side entrance and exit ramps can be repaired and repaved.
Advance work for the LSD resurfacing project will start on Monday, August 13. Traffic will be stopped intermittently during off peak hours for 10 to 20 minute intervals on Lower LSD to perform work on the underside of the elevated portions of LSD. Work on the northbound entrance ramps to LSD at Randolph and Illinois will be staged to assure that one ramp is open at all times. Resurfacing work on the upper level will also require intermittent closures on the lower level.
Advance work at LSD and LaSalle Drive is scheduled to start on August 20, and will require the closure of all but one lane in each direction on LaSalle Drive under LSD for the duration of the project.
CDOT is carrying out the work on an accelerated schedule with around the clock lane closures and crews working double shifts in order to complete the repairs as quickly and safely as possible, with a minimum amount of inconvenience for drivers.
