Sunesys 5G Installation: Addison & Ashland

November 26, 2019

Sunesys/Crown Castle will be installing fiber optic cables and associated equipment at N. Ashland and W. Addison. These improvements will enhance the speed and dependability of wireless communications in the area. The impacted area of the project is depicted below.

Type of Construction: The fiber optic cables will be installed underground (within right-of-ways) using directional boring, in order to minimize damage to the right-of-ways as well as some open cut trenching. There will also be installation of communication manholes, quazite boxes and the replacement of light pole(s). After installation, splicing will be performed to complete the project. In the event that pedestrian or vehicle traffic needs to be altered to accommodate construction equipment, barriers and signage will be installed to ensure the safety of those in the area. Any disturbed areas will receive an immediate temporary restoration solution, with a permanent restoration to previous or better condition to be performed later.

Impacted Area: Construction will start at under the sidewalk on the east side of N. Ashland at 3357 N. Ashland north to W. Addison, under the south sidewalk of W. Addison from N. Ashland to the first alley east of N. Ashland, across W. Addison into the alley east of N. Ashland and north of W. Addison to the first wooden ComEd pole.

Parking Restrictions: No parking signs will be posted along the following boundaries and will be in effect during construction hours:

  • TBD

Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Project Duration: First Quarter of 2020 (Monday through Friday)

Streets & Sanitation: Refuse & Recycling Schedule Change due to Thanksgiving Holiday

November 25, 2019

Please note these important changes to the refuse and recycling schedule due to the Thursday, November 28, 2019 Thanksgiving Holiday.

There will be no refuse or recycling collection on Thursday, November 29, 2019. All city-collected refuse will be serviced Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.  Residents should ensure all black refuse carts are accessible throughout the week of collection, not solely on their regular day of collection.

Additionally, residents should be advised of potential changes to Blue Cart Recycling collection based on their service provider.

(1)  The Department of Streets and Sanitation (Zones 2 and 4) will collect recycling on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Residents should ensure all Blue Recycling Carts are accessible throughout the week of collection.

(2)  Privately-provided Blue Recycling Cart Service will be collected Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, with all collections after Wednesday being moved one day. For example, Thursday collection will be moved to Friday, and Friday collections to Saturday.  Residents with private service should continue to put out Blue Recycling Carts throughout the week, according to their typical schedule.

  • Sims (Zone 5) will collect Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with all collections after Wednesday being moved one day; for example, Friday collections will be moved to Saturday.
  • Waste Management (Zones 1, 3 and 6) will collect Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, with all collections after Wednesday being moved one day; for example, Friday collections will be moved to Saturday.

Have a wonderful holiday week!
