TXT 2 TIP Program
Help Fight Crime Anonymously
The Chicago Police Department created the TXT2TIP program so that a person can anonymously and safely help prevent crime in their community by sending information to the Chicago Police Department via a text message from a cellular phone. Follow these easy steps to submit a tip via text message:
• Create a new text message or SMS text on your cellular phone
• Enter the number 274637 (CRIMES) in the "TO" line
• In the message box, type the word CPD, a space, and then your crime tip information
• Hit "send" to send the text message
You will automatically receive a system-generated message back on your cell phone acknowledging your tip. Your identity will not be sent to the Chicago Police Department.
You will also be eligible for a cash reward up to $1000. The cash reward is provided by Cook County Crime Stoppers for information leading to an arrest.
If you see a crime in progress or need to report an emergency, please call 911.
