1025 W. Belmont Mural

Posted: 6/15/2017

Dear Neighbor,

The mural located on the Kenmore side of 1025 W. Belmont is in the process of being updated.  The wall has been home to many murals over the last 60 years.  The newest mural will be designed by artist Kamelia Hristeva with Green Star Movement, with funding provided by the building’s owner, After School Matters, and Aldermanic Menu money.  It will be installed over the summer with the help of After School Matters, the building’s owner, and volunteers from the Lakeview community.

Two designs have been chosen and we would like your feedback.  PLEASE NOTE: ALL GRAY AND WHITE SPACES WILL ACTUALLY BE MIRRORED TILES.  Below are the two choices and examples of other murals the artist has done, all located within the city.  The nearest example of her work and Green Star Movement is located at Inter-American School, 851 W. Waveland.

The examples use the same colors as would be used in the Belmont/Kenmore Mural; while the colors in the designs may seem exceptionally bright, you can see in the examples that, once installed, the colors are toned down, especially with the mirrored tiles.

Please review the designs and email your preferred choice along with feedback and your home address to my assistant, Jessica Papp, at Jessica.papp@cityofchicago.org, or via phone, (773) 525-6034, by Tuesday, June 20th.

We are excited to have this art project in the 44th Ward.  It will be part of the Year of Public Art (YOPA) occurring throughout the City.
