1st, 18th, 19th, 20th, 24th Districts Deceptive Practice/Fraud Confidence Game

ABOUT THIS CRIME:
Offenders are gaining entrance to residences, during the hours of 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. The offenders use a ruse to enter by telling the elderly victim that they work for the water department and need to check their water. The offenders typically target elderly residence and take items they can easily carry including money and jewelry.

OFFENDERS:
Offenders descriptions vary with 2 or 3 Male offenders. They are described as White or White Hispanic. Ages vary between 30-45 years old. Heights range from 5'07-6'00, and builds are medium to heavy

WHAT YOU CAN DO:
• Secure your windows and doors
• Be aware of this situation and alert neighbors in the area about this crime
• Pay special attention to any subjects loitering in area
• Report any suspicious person or activity to police
• Do not confront the offenders, call 911 immediately

9.22.11 - 43rd Ward/19th District - Community Alert - Wanted for Criminal Sexual Assault/Robbery


About This Crime
On Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the victim was at home on the 2600 block of N. Wilton when the offender knocked on the victim's door. When the victim
answered, the offender displayed a handgun and entered the victim's residence. The offender then sexually assaulted the victim and took an unknown amount of money.


About The Offender
The offender is described as a male, white, 20-30 years of age, 5'11", 150-160 lbs. The offender was wearing a black Spandex-type ski mask, exposing his eyes. Offender was also wearing a navy blue zippered jacket, with a logo on right shoulder, blue jeans, black sneakers, and a black back pack.

• Call 911 to report any suspicious person(s), vehicle(s) or activity in your neighborhood.
• Call 911 and provide a detailed description of the Offender.
• Always be aware of your surroundings.
• Ensure you know the identity of the person at your door before opening it.
• Secure your exterior doors and don't let unknown individuals into your building.

8.3.11 - Community Alert - Wanted for Robbery / Battery

 

About This Crime

On Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at approximately 2:40 a.m., the victim was walking in the area of Belmont/Broadway when she was approached by the offender. The
victim was conversing on a cell phone when the offender began talking to her.
The offender told the victim that he was looking for a family member and
persuaded her to let him into her building. Once inside the lobby the offender
proceeded to rob and batter the victim.


About The Offender

The offender is described as a male, Black, 16-23 years of age, 5'02-5'04, 120-140lbs. He has short hair a dark complexion and facial hair.

  • If possible, don't walk alone and stay in well lit areas.

8.3.11 - Community Alert from the 32nd Ward


Wanted for Criminal Sexual Assault / Robbery - 19th District


About This Crime
• On Saturday, July 9, 2011 at approximately 0315 a.m., a 22 year old female was walking
on the 1400 block of W. Wrightwood when an offender approached her from behind,
placed his hand over her mouth, implied he had a weapon and pulled her down to the
ground. The offender then sexually assaulted the victim and subsequently took the
victim's cell phone. The offender was last seen riding a bicycle southbound on
Southport.


About The Offender
• The offender is described as a male, White Hispanic, 25-35 years of age, 5'07", 170 lbs.,
with dark brown hair. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with a design in the front
and cargo style khaki colored shorts.

• Be aware of this situation and alert neighbors in the area about the crime.
• If possible, don't walk alone and stay in well lit areas.
• Call 911 to report any suspicious person(s), vehicle(s) or activity in your neighborhood.

7.5.11 - BURGLARY/FORCED ENTRY


About The Crimes
Offender(s) have entered locked garages by prying open service doors or windows to gain entry. Once inside, the offender(s) have taken anything of value such as bicycles, lawn equipment, lawn furniture and household items. Additionally, the offender(s) have broken into vehicles within the garages by smashing the vehicles' windows and removing anything of value.


Incidents have occurred within the following area: Lawrence Avenue to the north, Belmont Avenue to the south, Southport Avenue to the east and Damen Avenue to the west.

What You Can Do
• Secure your garage doors, both overhead and service doors.
• Notify your neighbors of the break-ins. The more people are informed of the potential problems in the neighborhood, the more aware people become.
• If possible, place a motion detector in the yard and / or on the garage to alert you if someone is in your yard or by your garage.
• Contact the Chicago Police Department if you observe suspicious activity at 911 or contact the detectives at Area 3 Robbery/Burglary/Theft Crimes Unit.

6.3.11 - STRONG ARM ROBBERIES WITH MACE

There has been a number of robberies where victims have been sprayed with mace and their possessions stolen. The robberies have occurred around the following areas: Belmont to the South, Addison to the North, Pine Grove to the East and Sheffield to the West.

 

1.24.11 - ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING/CHILD ABDUCTION

An attempt kidnapping / child abduction occurred in the 3900 block of North Lake Shore Drive on January 6, 2011 at approximately 7:20 am. A 12-year-old girl, while waiting for the CTA bus to go to school, was addressed by a man she had never seen before. After the initial exchange of "good mornings", the girl realized that the man had maneuvered himself behind her. As she stepped away, the man asked if she wanted "to go to his apartment". The bus arrived and she told the man no. The girl was careful to locate herself away from the man who had also boarded the bus.

The man exited the bus at Addison. The girl exited at Belmont and went directly to her school, where she reported the incident to staff and police.

The offender has been described as a Male, Black in his 60's. He was approximately 5' 05", 140 -160 lbs., light complexion, brown eyes, long black hair and he wore glasses with a brown frame. He was wearing a brown jacket, brown pants, brown heavy rimmed glasses and a brown hat with ear flaps.

What you can do:

· Instruct your children on what action they must take if they are confronted by an unknown person.

· Assure you child that the proper thing to do is to tell what happened to an adult, preferably someone in authority.

9.07.10 - Community Alert - BURGLARY / HOME INVASION


On September 5 and 7, 2010, early morning hours (between 5:00am and 6:00am), offenders entered by force into residences located in the Lakeview area (the 1400 block of Addison and the 3700 block of Wilton) The offenders, after gaining entry, displayed a handgun and took electronic items along with personal property. The victims may have been targeted and followed home.

Offender information:
The offenders are: (2) male African-Americans, approximately 5'07"-5'09", thin build, dark complexion with one of the individuals using the nickname "boss" and (1) female African-American, 5'04'-5'05", slender (125 pounds), dark complexion with ponytail. All (3) offenders are in their late teens to early 20's in age.

What can you do?
· Be aware of your surroundings when entering and exiting your residence.
· When walking home late at night, be aware of anybody suspicious who may be following you.
· Check to see if doors & windows are locked.
· Report any suspicious activity by calling 911.

4.26.10 - ATTENTION TO ALL HONDA CIVIC AND FIT OWNERS

We have had several cases where a few or all four tires have been stolen from cars during the night. All the cases involve Honda Civics and Fits. From talking to area car dealers, it appears the thieves are targeting the Honda rims. Please be alert and look out for your neighbors. Ask them to do the same. A simple precaution is to purchase a set of wheel locks from any auto parts store.

4.23.10 - CREDIT CARD SCAM

About This Crime

Typically, a senior victim is contacted telephonically at home and told that one or moreof his/her credit cards has been compromised. The offender then tells the victims that,in order to assist them, the victim must either surrender their credit cards or relate personal information, such as a social security number or credit account number over the phone in order to rectify the security breach. In the event the victim chooses to giveup the credit cards, the offender tells the victim to place them in an envelope and an associate will pick them up.

About the Offenders

Offender 1 is a female - demographics are unknown at this time
Offender 2 is a African-American male in his 20's. Height and weight are undetermined at this time.

What Can You Do

Do not give personal information over the telephone. If the credit cardcompany calls, they will not ask for your social security number. Do not give your credit cards or card numbers to anyone. Hang up the telephone and contact police.
