Fire at 3130 N. Lake Shore

Posted: 1/9/2012

Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Shantel McCoy and those injured in Sunday's fire at 3130 N. Lake Shore Drive. In a tragic instant, a young life was taken from the world just as she was starting anew in our City. We are working with the Departments of Fire and Buildings on the cause of the fire and safety precautions that did or did not occur. The building had been cited for violations over the years and has been working with the City to come into compliance. We will continue to update neighbors as more information becomes available.

The building management at 3130 N. Lake Shore Drive has been providing housing and meals for those displaced by Sunday's fire. The American Red Cross was on the scene and is offering mental health professionals both on site and at St. Joseph Hospital. The Red Cross will be conducting an assessment of needs by those affected by the fire and will be providing more information on how you may be able to help in the near future. For the time being, you can always donate to the Red Cross at www.redcross.org/
